These mugs are handcrafted in Kate Brigden's garden studio in Sussex, England. Every mug is hand painted, so each one is a little unique. This pattern is called 'Rockpools', inspired by a childhood spent teetering of rock edges with an oversized net.
The pattern is painted with a grey pigment onto a white glaze. The speckles come from little flecks of iron within the body of the clay. When the piece fired it creates a lovely effect on the surface of the piece.
Process: Each piece is hand thrown on a pottery wheel and then left to dry a little, the underside is then trimmed and tidied. It is then left to dry out and ready for it's first firing. Once fired it is then dipped in glaze and hand-painted. The piece is then ready for it's final firing in the kiln.
